I usually go by Ben Kaiser outside of publications, but it seems another academic beat me to the punch on claiming that domain name. Therefore, I went with my full name I use for publishing: Benjamin C. Kaiser.
Looking for employment that (ideally) starts May 2026 to September 2026! (Yes, ideally 2026 not 2025 based on life constraints.)
I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in observational astronomy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I work with Professor J. Christopher Clemens to study white dwarf stars. I am most interested in the coldest (and therefore oldest) white dwarfs and the abundances of the exoplanets that those white dwarfs accreted.Â
I primarily use the Goodman Spectrograph on the SOAR 4.1-meter telescope to collect spectroscopy of these stars. I also provide instrument support for the Goodman Spectrograph.
I received my Ph.D. in Physics from the University of North Carolina in May of 2023. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Elon University in May of 2016 with a B.S. in Physics and minors in Mathematics, Astronomy, and German Studies.
